General information about the subject
Students study Art and Design once a week. They are each given a sketchbook to record their work which begins with the formal elements of Art and Design.

The projects are structured with theory tasks, where students develop a critical understanding of artists, architects and designers, and practical tasks. The practical  allow students to develop their skills using a range of media and techniques to respond to the art work studied and to explore their own creative ideas.

Our curriculum is based on the KS3 national curriculum.  Students are taught projects which allow them to develop their knowledge and understanding of art and design and express their thoughts and ideas using both 2D and 3D media.
How will my son or daughter be assessed?
When do these assessments take place?
A baseline assessment at the start of Year 7.

Assessment is through learner checks at key points in the project as they build up their knowledge and skills

A summative assessment for their final project outcome.

A knowledge book is given to each student which provides key knowledge and supports the project taught.
